For buttercream icing, dissolve 3/4 cup of granulated sugar in 1/2 cup of boiling water, allowing it to cool before adding 1/4 cup of meringue powder and beating to stiff peaks. Fold in 1 pound of sifted confectioner's sugar and 2 to 2 1/2 cups of white vegetable shortening until well combined.

To create meringue cookies, dissolve 1 cup of granulated sugar in 1/2 cup of boiling water until completely dissolved. Incorporate 1/3 cup of meringue powder and beat until the mixture forms high, stiff peaks. Gently fold in 1 teaspoon of vanilla or any other desired flavor or color. Pipe the mixture onto parchment or silicone-lined baking sheets and bake at 250°F for 40-45 minutes, until set and easily lifted from the pan with dry bottoms.
